Your old floor covering

We’ll help you decide how your old floors will be removed & disposed of. This can be time-consuming: Your existing subfloor may need to be leveled out before new floors are laid. In many cases, moldings & baseboards need to be removed prior to laminate installation. Painted baseboards, woodwork & paint may need retouching after installation is complete.

Prepare a door plan

When laminate is installed, there’s always the possibility that your doors, especially closet, basement and bedroom doors, may not clear the height of the new floors and swing free. Our installers may remove doors to install your flooring and will re-hang them if needed. We may recommend shaving or cutting down doors to ensure clearance.

Be clear about cleanup

Installing new floors will inevitably produce some degree of mess. Our team will handle all the cleanup, and if there's any waste we'll typically leave it at your property’s normal trash collection site. If you foresee any issues with this arrangement, don’t worry – we’ll clarify all the details before the scheduled date of your installation.

On Installation Day

Once you've made your purchase, a Gilman Floors representative will be in touch to confirm your installation appointment. He or she will discuss with you everything you need to know prior to your carpet installation. In the meantime, however, there are a few things to know.

First, you'll need to prepare the room. While we will move your furniture for you, you'll need to move any fragile items and empty any closets. You'll also want to make sure you handle any other projects, like painting, before your flooring installation.

On the day of the installation, an adult member of your household (at least 18 years of age) will need to be home to show our installers to the work area. We'll evaluate the space, make sure your subfloor is ready to go, and remove your old flooring if necessary. From there, we'll work on installing your beautiful new laminate floors. During this time, keep pets and children away from the area until the installation is complete.
