Before Installation Day
Your Gilman Floors installation crew will remove all furniture and other objects from the areas to be carpeted. We recommend you empty the contents of china cabinets, closets and drawers in advance.
Your old floor covering
We’ll help you decide how your old floors will be removed & disposed of. This can be time-consuming: Your existing subfloor may need to be leveled before new carpet is laid. In many cases, moldings and baseboards need to be removed prior to carpet installation. Painted baseboards, woodwork and paint may need retouching after the installation is complete.
Prepare a door plan
When carpeting is installed, there’s always the possibility that your doors, especially closet, basement and bedroom doors, may not clear the new carpet and swing free. Our installers may remove doors in order to install the carpet and will re-hang them if needed. We may recommend shaving or cutting down doors to ensure clearance.
Be clear about cleanup
Installing new carpet will inevitably produce waste. Usually we’ll leave this waste at your property’s normal trash collection site. If you foresee any issues with this, don’t worry – we’ll clarify all the details before your scheduled installation day. If you wish to hold onto any carpet remnants, we can arrange to leave them with you.
