Before Installation Day

Your Gilman Floors installation crew will remove all furniture and other objects from the areas to be carpeted. We recommend you empty the contents of china cabinets, closets and drawers in advance.

Your old floor covering

We’ll help you decide how your old floors will be removed & disposed of. This can be time-consuming: Your existing subfloor may need to be leveled before new carpet is laid. In many cases, moldings and baseboards need to be removed prior to carpet installation. Painted baseboards, woodwork and paint may need retouching after the installation is complete.

Prepare a door plan

When carpeting is installed, there’s always the possibility that your doors, especially closet, basement and bedroom doors, may not clear the new carpet and swing free. Our installers may remove doors in order to install the carpet and will re-hang them if needed. We may recommend shaving or cutting down doors to ensure clearance.

Be clear about cleanup

Installing new carpet will inevitably produce waste. Usually we’ll leave this waste at your property’s normal trash collection site. If you foresee any issues with this, don’t worry – we’ll clarify all the details before your scheduled installation day. If you wish to hold onto any carpet remnants, we can arrange to leave them with you.

On Installation Day

Once you've made your purchase, a Gilman Floors representative will be in touch to confirm your installation appointment. He or she will discuss with you everything you need to know prior to your carpet installation. In the meantime, however, there are a few things to know.

First, you'll need to prepare the room. While we will move your furniture for you, you'll need to move any fragile items and empty any closets. You'll also want to make sure you handle any other projects, like painting, before your flooring installation.

On the day of the installation, someone who is at least 18 years old will need to be home to show the installers to the work area. We'll evaluate the space, make sure your subfloor is ready to go, and remove your old flooring if necessary. From there, we'll work on installing your beautiful new carpet. During this time, keep pets and children away from the area until the installation is complete.

Afterwards, you might notice an unusual smell as well as some light shedding. Simply vacuum your carpet over the next few days and you should stop noticing these issues.
