Laminate Care & Maintenance

Daily care & preventative maintenance

Before establishing a daily care routine for your laminate floors, incorporate some preventative maintenance measures. Place welcome mats at all entrances to keep dirt from being tracked across your new floors on the bottoms of shoes. If you don’t have window coverings, it's also not a bad idea to rearrange your furniture & rugs every so often to give your floors a break and to reduce exposure to UV rays. Always be sure to take care when moving furniture or other heavy objects across your floors – never drag or drop them!

Daily care for your laminate floors can as easy as sweeping, dust mopping, or using a manufacturer-approved vacuum as often as needed, especially in high-traffic areas. Typically this means you should be cleaning anywhere from weekly to daily When cleaning spills or stains, act quickly with a clean, dry cloth and only use manufacturer-approved cleaning products if any at all.

Dealing with spills & stains

No matter how careful you are, your floors will likely fall victim to the occasional spill or stain. This is especially likely if you have kids or pets! Fortunately, many of today's laminate products feature built-in stain-resistant technology! However, it's still important to act quickly when a mess occurs – stain-resistant does not mean stain-proof.

If you see a spill, use warm water and a gentle detergent on a clean cloth to blot the stain. Never rub or scrub to remove the stain. Once you’ve picked up the spill, blot again with a separate clean cloth to dry. If you need to use a cleaning product, make sure it is approved by your carpet’s manufacturer. Never use bleach!
